Shiro powder is used to make shiro wot, Ethiopia's national dish. This is the stew you will find on every dinner table in every Ethiopian household up and down the country. It is mild and has a lovely creamy texture.
This Shiro blend is made with roasted Ethiopian chickpeas, yellow peas, fava beans, and a bouquet of fresh herbs and sun-dried spices. It's also called mitten shiro because it contains a little bit of berbere, giving it a lively orange colour. This dish will make your beyaynetu (platter with various dishes) complete. It's easy to make and ready in no time at all. There are two shiro recipes in the ebook and a quick shiro recipe here on the website.
Ingredients: Ground Ethiopian chickpeas, yellow peas, fava beans, garlic, ginger, holy basil, thyme, rosemary, fenugreek, berbere chilli, ajowan, nigella seeds, coriander, clove, cassia seeds, and onion powder
This is proper, high-quality mitten shiro. Not that dusty stuff. It's creamy, flavorful, and makes a bozena shiro that reminds me of Addis. Betam yitamal (It's delicious)!
I had no idea shiro had its own spice blend! This is amazing. It's savory and has a slight kick from the berbere. It's delicious and so easy to make.
m plant-based and always looking for new, flavorful meals. This is it. It's so easy to make, incredibly hearty, and the flavour is amazing. This is a new pantry staple for me.
I usually rely on my mum to send me Ethiopian products from home, so I rarely purchase them locally. However, when I do, Amaarech's products are my top choice. I recently bought Amaarech's shiro blend, and it was delicious. The blend is perfectly balanced and flavourful, making it easy to prepare. I highly recommend it and will definitely be buying it again!
I made this for lunch and it was so comforting. This is the shiro I grew up with. It's perfectly seasoned, you don't need to add much. So, so good.
